Times and Seasons

I recently had a conversation with my neighbor about how the clothes would dry up between January and February but right now a chiffon top takes ages to dry up because of the heavy rains. This got me thinking about times and seasons of life and how sometimes navigating through seasons can be a struggle.

Truthfully, life is not a straight line. I wish it was but such is life. I thought of my life and how sometimes it has been a roller coaster. I have had high and low moments. But as I thought of a simple thing as the laundry drying up, I thought about how seasons are important and the most important thing is when you find your aha moment and use the season you are in as a blessing or a lesson. See, without the sun, the duvets would never dry, and the children wouldn't be out there playing and flexing their muscles. Without rain, there is no food or water. Every season has its importance.

Some of us are going through winter. Our hearts are cold, and probably our surroundings too. You feel abandoned. You feel alone and it is too hard to go outside. You only have yourself. Stop trying to run out because if you are not warm enough you will freeze to death or end up burning the entire house to keep warm. Some of you are trying to run away from your emotions. Sit with them. Feel them because it gets to a point in life where you need to decide to work on yourself. The roads are closed. The network is down. You have yourself. Stop running back to relationships and trying to fix dead things to flame up the room. Sit and deal with your life.

Some of us are enjoying the spring. The seed that you have planted is now shooting and there is hope. Stop going back and thinking it is growing slowly. Stop thinking about your neighbor's crops and think about yours. In the spring it is easy to feel like you have planted but the progress is slow. It can feel that you have invested a lot in so many things. It feels like you have done a lot of digging but no yields. It is during the spring that you think of the quality of seeds and plant more. Do you need to change the brand? Do you need to change your approach to something? Do not get discouraged. What you planted is coming forth. Believe. Faith it.

Some of you are in your fall, where leaves are shedding off. Life has taught me there comes a time when patterns have to be changed, decisions have to be made and life has to be lived. Are there things that you need to shed? It is uncomfortable, but trust me, you must go through the season. You have to let go of people, ideas, and thought patterns and plan for your life. Some of us have refused to shed. We want to hold onto people that are detrimental to our well-being. We want to hold onto people whose purpose in our lives has come to an end. We want to hold onto relationships that are not worth it. Feel the pain but understand it gets to a point where people need to alight from the bus called life while others board.

And some of us are in summer, enjoying the heat and the sun while making use of sunscreen. Enjoy life. The sunrise is amazing to watch. Stop thinking about what you do not have. Let go of the boots you wear in winter. Enjoy the small wins. Some of us have gone through trauma that we feel guilty when we feel the warmth. Laugh. It is your time to enjoy. It is your time to breathe in and out. It is your time to be sun-kissed while you sip a cold glass of your choice.

And I know if we were asked, we would choose to have a season where things were going our way but we would never have learned. You will never be grateful for the sun until it starts raining. You will never be grateful for the trees until the snow comes in. Whatever season you are in, you are probably meant to be there or you probably have not learned the lesson you need to. Whichever the case, I hope you pick the blessing and the lesson. I hope you walk life knowing that no season lasts forever but in the season you are in, you will live the moment and plan for the next season. Give it time. It may take time, but it will all make sense all in due time. Soon.

  1. The blessedness of waiting is lost on those who cannot wait, and the fulfillment of promise is never theirs. They want quick answers to the deepest questions of life and miss the value of those times of anxious waiting, seeking with patient uncertainties until the answers come. They lose the moment when the answers are revealed in dazzling clarity.

The moment in between what you once were, and who you are now becoming, is where the dance of life really takes place.
Trust the wait. Embrace the uncertainty. Enjoy the beauty of becoming. When nothing is certain, anything is possible.

Thanks for this blog.. reminds me that is just a season and we need to gracefully let go of things that we outgrown.
